We’re going to use Starbucks as your brand example.

Suppose the Starbuck on Main Street, USA decided that because the neighborhood school colors were blue and gray, changed their colors to match the team. What if they went a step further and decided that the Starbuck mermaid wasn’t really right for the area and went with a beaver instead, again community support for the local high school. And if every Starbucks followed suit, eventually no location would look like a Starbucks. The brand would crash because all of their marketing efforts and money would be fragmented and confusion and fail to develop a loyal audience.
